To improve the performance of Entourage with OS X 10.5 and above do the following:
With entourage open, Go to preferences from Entourage in the menu bar
Under General preferences, go to Spotlight
Un-check Include Entourage items in spotlight search results
While this will disable integrated searching from the operating system, it can greatly improve performance and reduce latency on larger mailboxes.
