Note: mail.<yourdomain.com> is the example for your email server. Place in mail.<your website name>
For example: support@sbwh.com would have a mail sever (incoming and outgoing) as mail.sbwh.com
To change an existing account:
- In Mozilla Thunderbird, select Tools > Account Settings
- Select server settings (second on the top left)
- Change server name to mail.<yourdoman.com>
- Click Outgoing Server (SMTP)
- Highlight your server and click edit
- Change the server name to mail.<yourdomain.com>
- Check Username and password box
- Username is your full email address
- Use secure Authentication is NO
- Click OK.
To setup a new account:
- In Mozilla Thunderbird, select Tools > Account Settings, and then click the "Add Account" button at the bottom of the screen.
- Select "Email account" and click Next.
- Enter your name and e-mail address and click Next.
- Select "POP" as the type of incoming server you are using.
- Your incoming server is mail.yourdomain.com
- Your outgoing server is mail.yourdomain.com
- Leave global inbox checked!
- Click Next
- Enter your e-mail address for the "Incoming User Name," and "Outgoing User Name." Click Next.
- Enter a name for your e-mail account and click Next.
- Verify your account information and click Finish.
Note: New versions of Thunderbird skips the outgoing username step and has consolidated it into one section.
To setup outgoing smtp authentication:
- Go to tool >> Account Settings
- Click Outgoing Server (SMTP), highlight your outgoing server and click edit
- Check Username and password box
- Username is your full email address
- Use secure Authentication is NO
- Click OK.
To edit SMTP Server settings:
- Ensure your authentication method is "normal password"
- Make sure that Connection Security is set to "none"
- Your port should be 25 or 2525
- the server name is mail.<yourdomain.com>
When getting mail for the first time, you will be prompted for your password, enter it and check Use password manager to remember this password
Click Ok
To change the outgoing mail to a non standard port in case your ISP blocks port 25:
- Go to tools >> Account Settings
- Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) and on the right highlight the email account and click edit
- Change the port to 2525
- click Ok
To remove an account or recreate it
- Go to tools >> Account Settings
- Highlight the accounts above local folders (the name above server settings if expanded)
- Click remove account
- Click add account and go through the setup again
