Setting up Outlook for Exchange 2007 (Windows)

To setup Outlook for your Microsoft Exchange enabled account, follow the below instructions.

 

Note: We only support Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 on a Windows platform. We can not support or guarantee results when using Outlook XP or below.

 

 NOTE: YOU MUST CLOSE OUTLOOK TO MAKE THESE CHANGES. You can only make the changes from the mail control panel

  • Close Outlook completely
  • Click the “Start” button, then click “Control Panel”, then double click “Mail”. 
  • Click show profiles, and then click Add, give this a name like “Exchange” or your domain and then ok. 
  • If using Outlook 2007, Check Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click next

 

  • Click add-email account, then Exchange server. 
    • For the exchange server name:  ex001.webhostingprovider.com
    • Use cached mode
    • Put the first part of your email address (before@) in the check name box
    • If you are prompted for your username and password now, please click cancel, you will enter them at the end

 

  • Click more settings
    • You may get an error that the action could not be completed. Only if you get this error then click ok and click cancel on the next box that comes up.

 

On the next window that comes up:

  • Click the connection tab
  • Check the box at the bottom "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP"

  • Click the proxy server setting button. 
  • For the connection settings, the first URL (https) box type: ex.sbwh.net
  • Click the Connect using SSL only
    • For 2003 check Mutually authenticate the session box. 
    • For 2007, check the "only connect to proxy servers that have this principal in their certificate"
  • For the principle name for the proxy server, type:  msstd:ex.sbwh.net
  • Click both slow and fast boxes
  • Change the authentication box at the bottom to “NTLM Authentication

 

Click ok

Click ok

Click next

Click finish to get all the way back out

If you are prompted for your username and password, please enter it now

 

 

When you are asked to log in to the exchange server when you start email, your user name will be your email address for XP SP2 and higher or WHS\user_domain.com (basically your email address, truncated, and an _ where there is a @ for XP not running SP2).  We will provide your exact login name and password to you.
