Eliminate login prompt for Outlook on Exchange 2003-2007 (Windows XP)

Windows XP requires a slight change in the network password saved for an exchange account.

In order to eliminate the logon prompt upon connecting to Outlook, follow these steps:

Close out of Outlook

Go to your control panel and User accounts

Note: You can also type the following into the run command (start menu then run) to access the advanced features:

control userpasswords2

Depending on how you have XP setup (joined to a domain or not), you have two ways to access passwords.

  • If on a a domain, click advanced then network passwords
  • If not on a domain, click your account icon and click the left side link "Manage my network passwords"
  • If you see ex001.webhostingprovider.com or any other .webhostingprovider.com account, delete them.

Click Add

  • Enter *.webhostingprovider.com for the Server (note the * and . )
  • Enter your primary email address for User Name
  • Enter your password

Click Ok
Click Close

Close your control panel


You should no longer be prompted for password credentials upon login. If you are, you may need to follow the following Microsoft Knowledgebase article:
