Using the correct Mac Mail (OS 10.4 and above) settings

To change your email settings:

Note: You must use your full email address as the username.

  1. Open Mail
  2. From the Mail menu, choose Preferences.
  3. Click the Account button.
  4. Highlight your account to change.  



You should see a similar screen to that below:

 

Click advanced to go into the POP advanced settings

Once in advanced, make sure "Enable this account" is set
The port should ONLY be 110
DO NOT check "Use SSL"
For authentication, pull down to ONLY password

 

Click back on "Account Information"
Make sure "Use only this server" is checked

 

 

Pull down "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):" and select "Edit Server List:

 

The following is only if you use your domain for your outgoing mail server

Click on "Advanced"

"Server Port" must be set to either default or if your ISP blocks your outgoing mail server, 2525
   If you do not use your domain for outgoing mail, please use your ISP's documentation on how to set your outgoing mail, your port and settings may be different

DO NOT select "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)"
For authentication, pull down and select ONLY "password"
Enter your full email address (not the alias address) and password
Click Ok

 

Close and save if prompted to.
Close out Mac Mail completely and reopen (Go up to Mail and select "Quit Mail")
Upon relaunching Mac Mail, you may be prompted for your password, save it in your keychain and continue.




If your outgoing server shows offline:

From the Mail Menu, select Mailbox
choose Take All Accounts Online
